Massive zero-metal stars: Energy production and mixing
نویسنده
چکیده
Time-dependent nuclear network calculations at constant temperature show that for zero-metal stars & 20M⊙ (i) β-decay reactions and (ii) the N(p,γ)O reaction must be included. It is also shown that the nuclear timescale in these zero-metal stars is shorter than the mixing timescale and therefore the assumption of instantaneous mixing across convective regions is not fulfilled. We conclude that proper modeling of these processes may alter the evolution of massive zero-metal stars.

Primordial Core-collapse Supernovae and the Chemical Abundances of Metal-poor Stars
The inclusion of rotationally-induced mixing in stellar evolution can alter the structure and composition of presupernova stars. We survey the effects of progenitor rotation on nucleosynthetic yields in Population III and II supernovae using the new adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) code CASTRO. We examine spherical explosions in 15, 25 and 40 M⊙ stars at Z = 0 and 10 −4 Z⊙ with three explosion en...
متن کاملMixing in Zero and Solar Metallicity Supernovae
Two-dimensional simulations of mixing and fall back in non-rotating massive stars have been carried out using realistic initial models for the presupernova star and assuming standard spherically symmetric explosions of 1.2×10erg. Stars of 15 and 25 M with both primordial and solar composition were modeled. The zero metallicity supernova progenitors were compact blue stars and the amount of Rayl...
متن کاملOn the Stability of Very Massive Primordial Stars
The stability of metal-free very massive stars (Z = 0; M = 120 − 500M⊙) is analyzed and compared with metalenriched stars. Such zero-metal stars are unstable to nuclear-powered radial pulsations on the main sequence, but the growth time scale for these instabilities is much longer than for their metal-rich counterparts. Since they stabilize quickly after evolving off the ZAMS, the pulsation may...
متن کاملThe Chemical Yields Produced by Zero Metal Massive Stars
In this review we compare the three existing sets of theoretical yields of zero metal massive stars available in the literature. We also show how each of these three different sets of yields fits the element abundance ratios observed in the extremely metal poor star CD 38 245. We find that, at present, no theoretical set of yields of zero metal massive stars is able to satisfactorily reproduce ...
متن کاملChemical Abundances and Yields from Massive Stars
Stellar rotation produces an internal mixing of the elements due to shear instability and meridional circulation. This leads to observable N/C enhancements in massive stars above about 7–9 M⊙. Rotation also favours mass loss by stellar winds. Mass loss effects dominate for masses above 30 M⊙, while mixing dominates below that limit. The effects of mixing are also much larger at lower metallicit...
